After being frozen and depressed about seemingly another day of pointless nothingness, I’m feeling a bit better this evening.
My supervisor finally handed over the bit of the manual on Oracle Warehouse Builder that tells me a little about how to do things in it rather than just advertising the features. Yay. She ‘forgot’. I have [...]

*shivers violently*
Yesterday it was a little chilly in the office, so I wore a warmer top today in defense. Today the heat has been turned down even further and I am completely frozen, despite the warmer clothing. I am trying to decide whether wearing a thick sweater tomorrow will:
a) cause the building facilities to turn [...]

Today I was given access to the Unix logins so I got to play around and learn something. Most importantly, I learned how to check the logs that I will need to check each morning which means that I finally have something to do!
OK, so I have something to do for 5 minutes a day [...]
Day 2 of the new job

Hmm, it seems that I’ve gone from a job where I never had enough hours in the day to one where my supervisor hasn’t got the time to train me. So I spent the day reading manuals and documentation that will probably make a lot more sense when I actually get a glimpse at the [...]
As first days go…

The good news is that I didn’t have the urge to hand in my resignation when I got home and I think the job is going to be OK.
The bad news is that I tried to fill out my three thousand forms with the HR girl, whipped out my social insurance card…only to find that [...]

I start my new job tomorrow. I am 98% excited and eager, 2% nervous.
Yay?
That means I don’t know what time I’ll be home for our chat, historyterry. Sorry! I’ll catch you if you’re there, otherwise can you let me know when you’re likely to be around this week?
Is it tomorrow yet? Wow, I haven’t been [...]
Things I miss

Mum has been gone for a bit over a week and I’m now starting to notice the odd things that I miss about England. It’s weird because a lot of them aren’t things that I thought I’d miss.
Radio 2 – particularly Chris Evans while I’m driving home.
The Today show on Radio 4.
The Independent newspaper.
BBC dramas.
Private [...]
Pancakes, corn mazes and boats, oh my!

I’ve had a wonderful few days with paranoidangel42 visiting. She arrived on Saturday and we had a relaxed evening recovering from her flight. Then on Sunday we did a bit of a road trip, visiting the sugar camp near Truro where they made PA some vegan gluten free pancakes (yay!) and took us on a [...]

For the curious, I passed my test and now have a Nova Scotia driver’s licence
After worrying, stressing, and ending up at the stage of being ready to throw-up by the time the examiner came to my car, it turned out to be much easier than I thought. In fact, he just had me [...]
Job offer

The job that I interviewed for last week has made me an offer. The salary is less than I’d hoped for and the holiday is the statutory minimum, but the benefits are good and they have a company pension.
They’re emailing me the contract so that I can review it before saying yes.
It’s a job that [...]
